CryptBox’s main purpose is to help you securely store your sensitive information and it achieves this goal by using 256 or 128-bit AES encryption. You can use this security tool to encrypt drives, to create password-protected, encrypted virtual drives/safes, and to create safes on a portable device. On top of that, it comes with a shredder function that helps you securely delete the files you no longer need.

32 and 64-bit Windows editions are supported by CryptBox – that would be Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Installing CryptBox is a standard procedure: download an executable, run it, click through the setup wizard. Once the process is over, you will be asked to restart your machine. When you launch CryptBox for the first time, you will be asked to choose between enabling the test version and buying the full version. After you enable the test version, you will be asked to unlock it – a code will be sent to the email address you provide; click the code and the application will be unlocked automatically.

The main panel of the application’s interface presents the safes you created. The buttons for accessing all the application’s functions are grouped together into categories and hosted by a ribbon at the top. Overall, the interface is quite easy to use – you won’t have any problems using it and accessing all the functionality offered by CryptBox.

When you launch CryptBox for the first time, you are presented with a StartCenter prompt that invites you to create a new empty safe, convert an existing folder into a safe, and create a safe with a PortableApp on it. Pick the option to create a new safe and a wizard will guide you through the process. You will be asked to pick a drive letter and name for the safe, choose where you want the safe to be saved, pick how much space you want to allocate for the safe, select what type of password you want to use for the safe (text password, picture password, USB stick key, iPod key), and select AES 128 or 256-bit encryption. Once you’re done, you will be able to unlock the safe and securely store any data you want inside it.

There are several options you can access to customize your experience: put a safe’s shortcut on the desktop, set it so the safe will close after a time limit or if Windows is idle for a certain amount of time, automatically run an application after opening/closing a secure drive, change the size of the safe, set a system wide keyboard shortcut to open or close the safe.

Besides letting you create safes to securely store your data, CryptBox can also encrypt drives, create rescue CD images, and it can shred files.

Please note that the CryptBox trial version does not allow you to use 256-bit encryption.

Create safes to securely store data, encrypt drives, and shred unneeded files – you can do all these things with the greatest of ease by using the security solution CryptBox.

Pros

CryptBox is available for 32 and 64-bit Windows editions. The application provides support for multiple languages. Dropbox is supported. A wizard helps you create a new safe, create a safe with a PortableApp on it, or convert a folder to a safe. You can set it so an application is automatically run when you open or close a safe. You can also encrypt drives and shred files. There’s a handy password generator and a password strength indicator.

Cons

The trial does not allow you to use 256-bit AES encryption, only 128-bit.
